I used a deep sepia and gold black-and-white filter here.  That filter, coupled with happy hour lighting and a little fog, resulted in this dreamy image.  I just love looking at this beautiful scene.  It calls to me, “Go ahead, take a walk down the street into China’s past.”
How to take a picture like this? Put the camera on a tripod (or a steady place and make sure you don’t move it). Then take a bunch of pictures from that place (in this case seven) with the person moving around doing different things. Then, go into photoshop and use layer masks to blend the multiple images together. And viola!
Stuart Scott said it: “I’m not a hater, but sometimes I be hatin’.” I hate to bust this gold digging gorilla like this, but when he started eating his buggers, I couldn’t help it. He was at it for only a couple of minutes. But it was enough to capture the whole sequence:
1) He looks around suspiciously trying not to look like he’s up to something.
2) The excavation.
3) And he…no, no, come on man…..ooohhhh, he ate it!
This beautiful garden is in the Kyoto Imperial Palace (Kyoto Gosho). You have to use your passport and register ahead of time to get a ticket for a guided tour. But it’s not as big of a hassle as the books make it out to be, and it’s well worth it.

I would have really enjoyed adding a few kids or a traditionally dressed Japanese model to the picture to breathe some extra life to it, but this area was roped off and tightly watched (perhaps there will be a photoshopped version later). So I played around as best I could trying to find the right composition and light (translation: I walked around with a critical eye while switching between different lenses). This is the final image that I ended up with.
Yes, this image was taken with a point-and-shoot camera (also known as compact cameras or pocket cameras). This is from my 5 year old Cannon 880.  Despite being kept in my jeans pocket for most of it’s life, this camera is still churning out high quality images.  Just look at how much detail and color saturation it captured!

PS: See the honey bee?  He sees you.
As you can see from the background, Santorini (Greek island) is a very popular place for cruise ships. There are four of them up there with tender boats swarming the ocean like fireflies. While I loved the island itself, perhaps the best part is riding a donkey up this winding steep pathway. Once I got to the top, I sat still with my camera in hand waiting until just the right moment when all the cruise ships and tender boats were arranged in a pleasing composition.
Craziness.  We got a pick-your-pleasure day again today.  Three pictures.  Three interpretations.  Three choices.  The first one is more real.  The second one is more fantasy.  And the third one is more antique.  Post your preference to comments.
