Somewhere Russell Crowe is smirking, and John Nash is frowning.  I love everything about this picture: the code breaker in the shadows in front of his computer, leading lines coming in from both sides, sticky-type notes everywhere including the ceiling and even the ceiling fixtures.  This is crazy-awesome in my book.
Zhouzuang is by far the best water village I have been too period.  Other village may be better in certain areas, but Zhouzuang is the most well-rounded.  Here is a nice vertical panoramic that will nicely stand by itself and nicely compliment the rest of my series on Zhouzuang.
Shimmering….gold…crystals….lights…symbols….textures….You.  Are.  Hypnotizing.  Me
Topaz Lens was used here to do two things in post production.  First, I used it the “Extra Creamy” setting to blur the edges of the image.  Second, I used a “Selective Vignette” and applied a hint of blue around the image.  Thos effects were done to enhance the cold-rainy-day mood.
Here is cover for my upcoming children’s story titled Layla’s Magical Book.  It is about a young western girl who travels to the orient and encounters many wonderful but strange things!

Also, this book is set to be one of the first of its kind.  I always liked those “choose your own adventure” novels when I was a kid.  Consider this the next step.  You will be able to take approximately 15 photographs of your kid and send them to me along with your kid’s name and YOUR KID WILL BE IN THE ADVENTURE!  Exciting!

In the meantime, you can follow the instructions below to get your kid posted into this picture.  All you have to do is email me (jonathan@jonathanphotos.com) with the picture and name.  And within two weeks, hanging above your child’s bed—or wherever—will be this amazing picture with him/her in it.

Step 1: Standing about 3 meters away at a quarter angle, take a picture of your child with a 50mm lens (that's a 35mm in DX format...like a Canon Rebel or a Nikon D3200) sitting down on a table or a stool pretending to read a book.

Any camera will do!...But obviously, the better, the better.

PS: If you want absolute best results, then take the picture of your child against an solid colored wall that is a differnet color from your kids clothes (like a green screen, it's just that it doesn't have to be green, it can be whatever color).

Step 2: Email it to me. Then I will delete everything around your child to produce this:

Step 3: I "photoshop" your child into the picture below and print out an amazing limited edition print in the size and on the material of your choosing. And you and your child will have a treasured piece of art to cherish the rest of your lives.

For those of you out there still reading and waiting for the technical explanation. Yes--everything in here is a photograph. The background scene was shot in Kyoto, Japan. The wildlife was shot in their native habitat. Then I combined them all. I created the photo so your eye naturally gets drawn to the bottom left by making the girl the object that sticks out the most because (a) pink stands out against green (b) she's vibrantly colored (c) the shrubbery on the bottom right is dead space, forcing you to look left and (d) the sun rays and the bridge lead you to her. From the girl, your eye then naturally goes to the bridge, leading you into a background filled with all sorts of wonderful animals and mysteries.
I am now all confused.  Do we call scenes like this “Avatar” or “Life of Pi?”  I am still going with Avatar.  It was the original.

Since people always wonder--yes, this is exactly what the mall next to Jing An temple looks like.  Beyond beautiful, otherwordly, and magical are all appropriate adjectives.  The trick was how to capture this scene’s epic scale in a photograph.  I tried a number of different angles and compositions, but I like this one the best with the two front Avatar Light Trees framing the five cascading Avatar Light Trees in the back.
This home is in Tianzifang in Shanghai.  It is on the ground level and easily accessible.  The owners were very nice and let me set up for this lovely shot.  The narrowness really makes this picture special.  Once I found the location, I had to decide two things.  First, did I want a person playing the piano?  Second,  should I turn this into a creepy Nutcracker picture by turning down the color on everything else except him? Great news is that there is still time to go back and go down either of the roads if I feel like it. But as of right now, I feel like this is the image I want. Enjoy.
Yes, I have a love affair with photoart.  I think things like this are clever, confusing, and thus, amusing.  Above, I have the actual picture I took and printed.  But, below, I wanted to show something special.  Using Topaz Labs Lens Effect, I was able to easily produce this kaleidoscope like effect, which really strikes me as a message about paparazzi and photography.
