Storm Approaches a Single Cottage on a Rice Terrace Hill
I love terrace rice fields on mountains. Who doesn’t? But you know what I’m not as big of a fan of: flat, boring lighting. And that is what I got for three straight days here. Seriously? How are you gonna do me like that? What should I do:
-Option A: Wait. As. Long. As. It. Takes….for the light to improve.
-Option B: Pack it up and go home. You can’t win them all.
-Option C: Shoot 5 bracketed image and then create my own light.
I choose Option C. Here I used a black paint brush in Photoshop to simply paint in some shadows (dramatic effect). Then I used a cloud brush from Obsidian Dawn to add some fog (fog makes anything look cooler). I used Topaz Labs to give it some Bokeh on the front and back end to help guide the viewer’s eye to the cottage (pleasing aesthetics). And finally I made it into a black and white because what drives this image is composition and not coloring. As you can see in the five originals in the film strip above, this is 100% photo art as this scene looked nothing like this.
