This photo was all about capturing how epic this tree was. To that end, it had to do with lighting and composition. Huge trees can be hard to shoot. They look more impressive in person than on most photographs. Here I shot this whole tree with the subject in the center, only at the last step did I crop it down putting the subject on the side and cutting off the top, left, and bottom portions of the image. Weeding out extra information allows this image to focus on what really matters: the woman, the tree chords, and the setting. Let the viewers mind fill in the rest of this mammoth tree.
