These long horizontal clouds are one of the hallmarks of the South Island in New Zealand. Needless to say, they are super photogenic. I particularly love how it adds another layer to a sunset photo like this. This zoomed in photo contains 6 layers instead of just 4 because of that cloud (from the top: blue sunset, dark cloud, orange sunset, white snow, blue mountains, and then black trees).
Photo Tip: Like all photographers say, sunrise and sunset. During the middle of the day this scene would have been ho hum.
