Looking Up at an Old Chinese Grandma
I had met up with a group of Chinese college girls (the only English speakers that I’d seen in about 4 days) and was hanging around Fenghuang with them. I don’t think this old Chinese lady knew I had secret Chinese friends. She approached me chilling with my big D800 monster camera and used international sign language indicating that I could take her picture. My new Chinese friends immediately swarmed into action. I politely refused because I figured she wanted me to pay an exorbitant fee after I finished. After some translation, the Chinese peeps said that no, she was just being nice. I gave them a look like, you guys are either naïve or idiots. After I finished taking a few pics the old lady with surprising strength grabbed my forearm wanting money. I couldn't help but laugh. But my Chinese friends weren't playing; they went ballistic on this poor lady.
